SDG GOALS
Basel Proms commitment to Diversity & Inclusion and Sustainability
Basel Proms is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, with the aim of enhancing the richness of the musical experience and contributing to a more vibrant community. At the same time, we take the UN’s Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) seriously, and will use them as a beacon, as we moe forward towards a more diverse, inclusive and sustainable future. We know we are not perfect and will not be able to fulfill all requirements, all the time, and immediately; but we hold these goals as guides and reminders to take care of our community and our physical environment.
Some examples of how we are committed to doing this are:
SDG Goal 5: Gender Equality:
- Ensure gender diversity in your performers, conductors, programming and leadership roles.
- Advocate for equal representation and opportunities for female musicians and artists.
SDG Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth:
- Implement fair and ethical labor practices for all individuals involved in your events, including performers, staff, and volunteers.
- Collaborate with local businesses for event-related services to support the local economy.
SDG Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities:
- Implement inclusive ticket pricing to make events accessible to individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
- Collaborate with community organizations to provide opportunities for marginalized groups to participate in and enjoy the concert series.
- Choose venues that are accessible to people with disabilities and consider the needs of all audience members. This includes providing information in multiple languages and ensuring physical accessibility.
SDG Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production:
- Minimize waste by promoting eco-friendly practices, such as using reusable materials for event promotion, reducing single-use plastics, and recycling at venues.
- Collaborate with vendors who prioritize sustainable and ethically sourced products.
Goal 13: Climate Action:
- Offset carbon emissions associated with the event by investing in carbon offset programs.
- Choose eco-friendly venues and implement energy-efficient practices, such as using LED lighting and promoting public transportation.
